WEIGHTIER MATTERS – Day 203

Text: MATTHEW 23:1-39

Memory Verse: Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. (Mathew 23:23)

Message: Some people erroneously misconstrue today’s memory verse to mean that Jesus condemned the payments or giving of tithes. But that is far from the truth. The word of God is very clear. Our Lord Jesus Christ detests Christianity that specializes in holding fast to one principle of the scriptures to the detriments or neglect of others. The Pharisees and the Scribes were very faithful to all kinds of tithing but they neglected and ignored other very important issues like judgement, mercy and faith.
Jesus called all these the weightier matters of the laws. He told them “these ought ye to have done and not to leave the other undone”. Our Lord Jesus Christ encouraged them to attend to these weightier matters but not to leave the issues of tithes undone. 
Thank God for our level of obedience. There are believers who are ready to fast for a hundred days and pray for several hours but they are not ready to forgive those who offend them. Some are not ready to get rid of laziness in their lives. Some still accommodate worries and anxieties as if God did not warned against it in His word. Some are ready to pray but they are not ready to obey God’s word on giving .  Disobedience to God’s instructions will always rob us of our blessings but obedience will secure the blessing of God on our lives Remember the instructions of God’s word as a husband to love your wife as Christ loves the Church and as a wife God said you should respect your husband. We must pay attention to all these instructions and many more if we really desire to please our Heavenly Father.

Wisdom Nugget: Obedience has no substitute. Do not be a specialist on one subject of the scriptures and be an ignoramus in others.
