THE PURPOSE OF PENTECOST – Day 102
Text: ACTS 1:1-26
Memory Verse: But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8)
Message: Pentecost is synonymous with the Holy Ghost in the New Testament because the Holy Ghost came upon the people of God on the day of pentecost. “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting and there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:1-4). Without the Holy Ghost we are empty, powerless and we cannot live the impactful lives. The initial sign that they were filled with the Holy Ghost was that they spoke in new tongues but that was just a sign. The main thing was that our Lord Jesus Christ said in Acts 1:8, that they shall receive power when they are baptised in the Holy Ghost. You become powerful because you are imparted with God’s power when the Holy Ghost come upon you. The Holy Ghost is not just for us to speak in tongues even though that is also very very important but the most important is that we receive power to become witnesses for Christ. It is a taboo and abuse of the purpose of pentecost for anyone to be filled with the Holy Ghost and he or she is not a soul winner.
Wisdom Nugget: Your claim of Holy Ghost Baptism is not genuine until you become a passionate soul winner.
Prayer Point: Father, help me to be more passionate about soul-winning in Jesus name.
