TEACH US TO PRAY – Day 5
Text: LUKE 11:1-54
Memory Verse: And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples (Luke 11:1)
Message: There is no way to pray and receive answer if we refuse to learn how to pray effectively. The disciples followed the master enough to notice the value He placed on the subject of prayers not only in His words but in His deeds or lifestyle. They noticed that prayers played a vital role in the life of the master, despite all their busy schedule He still had enough time to pray early in the morning, all night and always. The disciples said unto him “Lord, teach us to pray”. Not just to teach them the principles of answered prayers but to also see to it that prayer becomes their lifestyle as well just like the master. It is possible to read many books on prayers and preach extensively or teach in-depth teachings on prayers without necessarily praying. Our Lord Jesus Christ knowing the place, power and purpose of prayers did not tell the disciples that they had no need of prayers or tell them that His own prayers were enough to sustain them. He took out time to teach them on the all important subject of prayers. He told them “when ye pray” not “if you pray”. To show that prayer is mandatory not optional. Secondly, He told them to “Say”. Prayer is not about what we imagine or mere shaking of head without uttering anything but we have to say certain words. He made them to see prayers as communication between them and their loving father (God). He made them to realise the fact that prayer is worship and co-operation with God to bring His will to pass and not just imposition of our own will or protest against God. He also taught them to forgive anyone who offends them because unforgiveness is capable of hindering them from receiving answers to their prayers.
Wisdom Nugget: No one can really prevail without truly travailing in prayers.
Prayer Point: Father I receive grace to prevail over the enemies of my destiny in Jesus name.
