DO NOT OPPRESS YOUR WORKERS – Day 192

Text: DEUTERONOMY 24:1-22

Memory Verse: Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates. At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee. (Deuteronomy 24:14-15)

Message: As children of God, the Bible is our manual or our personal constitution in this kingdom. We cannot live or do things just the way we like or as it is convenient. We must submit to the authority of God’s word and be willing to do all that the word of God requires. One of such requirements is what we just read in our memory verse today that we must not oppress those who work with us. Whether you are an employer or not we need to learn from this. There are employees who cannot flow freely with other employees simply because they got to the company before them or they are more connected in that organisation. That you are privileged to be in an employment before others does not mean you should oppress or maltreat them. God’s word also tells us not to owe our workers or delay their payments. It is so unfortunate that many states in our country, Nigeria cannot or do not pay their workers as at when due. Many have died because their employers did not pay their salaries for several months, forgetting that these same people have dependants, children school fees to pay and they must feed themselves and their families. Some of them will also depend on their salaries to pay their rents. It is better not to employ people than to employ them and we are not able to pay them. Sometimes it may not necessarily be that they do not have money to pay but they just choose to lavish their resources on mere frivolities.

Wisdom Nugget: Treat others the same way you want to be treated.

Prayer Point: Father, help me to see others the way you see them in Jesus name.
