AND HE WAS A SAMARITAN – Day 40
Text: LUKE 17:1-37
Memory Verse: And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God. And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan (Luke 17:15,16)
Message: Jesus healed ten lepers by simply telling them to go and show themselves to the high priest according to the requirements of the law, because this happened before He went to the cross. Some of the practices of Christ before the cross were in accordance to the Law of Moses and that is why the gospel of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were classified to be part of the Old Testament, especially those chapters that came before the cross of Calvary. The lepers did not see any difference in their bodies immediately, but as they were going they suddenly discovered that the sickness eating them up from their inside had stopped. Interestingly all of them noticed the change but only one of them returned to Christ to appreciate Him. We read that when he got to Christ he prostrated and bowed before Christ and worshipped Him with a loud voice. He then asked him where are the other nine? That shows that He was actually expecting all of them to return with thanksgiving. A very critical thing that worth to be examined was the fact that the one leper that returned to worship God was a Samaritan. He was supposed to be an unbeliever, not a Jew, not someone in covenant with God. What a shame to notice in our days that some unbelievers are more passionate about thanking God and worshipping Him than some believers. That does not mean that such attitudes will automatically take them to heaven but it can attract reward for them here on earth. Some unbelievers are paying tithes while some believers are dodging it.
Wisdom Nugget: Until we learn to do better than the unbelievers in our praise and giving to God, we are not ready to live better.
Prayer Point: Father, help me to do better in my walk with you in Jesus name.
